Coping strategies

Breathe Through the Stress

  • Try simple techniques like 4-7-8 breathing (inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, exhale for 8).
  • This helps calm your nervous system, especially during stressful moments with work, kids, or personal struggles.

Reframe Negative Thoughts with Faith and Truth

  • Instead of saying, “I’ll never get through this,” try, “With God’s help, I will overcome” (Isaiah 41:10).
  • Speak life over yourself. The words you use shape how you see yourself as a man and a father.

Find Strength in Prayer

  • A short breath prayer like “God, give me peace” as you exhale can center you in the middle of chaos.
  • You don’t need fancy words—just talk to God honestly about what’s on your heart (Philippians 4:6-7).

Move Your Body to Move Your Mind

  • A quick 15-minute walk, push-ups, or stretching can shift your mood fast.
  • Exercise releases stress, builds discipline, and reminds you that taking care of your body is taking care of your mind.

Build Your Village—Don’t Walk Alone

  • Surround yourself with brothers who get it—other dads, mentors, or a church group (Hebrews 10:24-25).
  • Having someone to check in with can remind you you’re not the only one going through this journey.

Practice Surrender

  • As fathers, we want to fix everything, but some things require trusting God’s timing (Proverbs 3:5-6).
  • Write down one thing you’re trying to control, then pray and release it. Let go and let God work.

Worship as Warfare

  • When stress rises, shift your focus—put on a song that lifts your spirit (2 Chronicles 20:22).
  • Even when you don’t feel like it, expressing gratitude or worshiping can break through heavy emotions.

Prioritize Rest Without Guilt

  • Rest isn’t laziness—it’s God’s command (Exodus 20:8-10).
  • Take a break from screens, go outside, or set boundaries with work. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

Journaling

  • Writing doesn’t have to be deep—just get your thoughts out.
  • Try a simple structure: What happened today? How did I feel? Where did I see God move?

Take Small Steps

  • Therapy may feel uncomfortable at first, but keep showing up (James 1:2-4).
  • Healing isn’t overnight—trust that every session, every prayer, and every effort counts.

TESTIMONIALS

Greetings,

. I have found it to be a very valuable asset in my life at this time. I found the services to be very timely, relatable, with objective counseling. I appreciate the skills and the experience that the counselors bring to the sessions, and I also appreciate the ease and the convenience of being able to schedule a session. It's very easy, it's very convenient for my schedule, and I appreciate everything that Skillz on Wheelz is doing in this time and this season of my life.

Thank you, appreciate it.

Skillz on Wheelz has been such a blessing to my family. When I first went to the RV with my daughter, who I thought was in crisis, I was scheduled with Miss Ikia, and she slowly helped me unpack and see that I was the one in crisis, not my daughter. It was kind of like a whole-body healing—mind, body, and soul through Christ.

Once we were able to unpack all of my stuff and I began to flourish, everyone in my household began to flourish—my daughters, my husband, and my relationships with my family. I can't thank or show my gratitude enough to Miss Ikia and Skillz on Wheelz.

Thank you!

Skillz on Wheelz has impacted my life in such a good way. Their services have helped me tremendously in so many ways. It's given me the tools to navigate my thoughts and process them in healthier ways, leading to new perspectives I hadn't considered before.

One of the biggest changes for me has been feeling like I've taken the reins back over my life. I've gained clarity, confidence, and a sense of control that I didn't have before. I'm truly grateful for the support and guidance I've received at Skillz on Wheelz, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to make meaningful changes in their life.

I am a veteran who is diagnosed with 100% PTSD and depression, and since my first appointment with SOW, I am successfully off my medication. I truly believe this is because of the model of doing everything through Christ. I was coached to rely on Christ, and I can say that is what has helped me live a functional life without medication. I will forever be thankful for Skillz on Wheelz.

Thank you.

I just want to personally thank the team at Skillz on Wheelz. Thank you for what you do—my life and my family's life have truly been impacted by your sacrifices. I also want to thank you for your hospitality and for being flexible with time.

I honestly don't know how I would have made it through the season I was in. I lost my second child in childbirth, and I didn’t know where to turn. For you all to come swiftly and be on time meant everything. When I tell you every session was life-changing—it truly was. After my first session, I immediately started journaling, and I still have my notes from those sessions. They have drastically changed my life.

I just want to say I thank God for your team and for what you do. I pray that God continues to bless you all because you have no idea the magnitude of your impact.

Thank you.
