Skillz on Wheelz (SOW) is committed to bringing mental health awareness to the heart of our communities by partnering with local barbers—trusted figures who often serve as sounding boards for their clients’ personal struggles. Barbers hold a unique role in their communities, offering not just a fresh haircut but also a safe space where clients share their stories, frustrations, and pains. Recognizing the influence and connection barbers have, SOW is launching an initiative to equip them with tools to support mental health conversations.

Through a comprehensive 3-hour training session, we aim to provide barbers with practical knowledge about mental health, strategies to encourage healing, and resources to share with their clients. This training will focus on recognizing signs of emotional distress, offering supportive and nonjudgmental communication, and connecting clients to professional mental health services when needed.

The initiative, titled MENtal HEALth – MEN HEAL, is designed to empower barbers to be advocates for mental wellness within their shops. By fostering understanding and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health, barbers can play an active role in encouraging men to prioritize their emotional well-being and seek the help they deserve. Together, we can create a culture where healing and mental health are seen as a vital part of every man’s journey.
