Introduction
Clara was born and raised in Mexico. There, she had studied clinical psychology and received extensive training in the psychodynamic perspective, as well as marriage counseling, which was the topic of her thesis that earned her a clinical psychology degree and a license to practice in Mexico. In 2000, she married and immigrated to the USA.

After she arrived in Oklahoma, she worked for Healthy Start, a program within the Tulsa Health Department, where she spent 14 years doing prevention and intervention to reduce the infant mortality rate in the Tulsa community. During this time at THD, Clara played a pivotal role in informing and empowering the Spanish-speaking community about health-related topics that impacted their well-being.

In 2010, Clara also obtained her master's degree in Marriage and Family therapy at SNU, with the intention of incorporating new skills into her work. Soon after, she received her License in Counseling in the state of Oklahoma and started a small private practice, which she still has.

In 2014, Clara continued working for the Tulsa Health Department; however, she transitioned to another program, Child Guidance, where she spent the next six years of her career. During this time, Clara worked as a counselor with families and children in various areas, including child disorders, child development, social skills, challenging behaviors, parenting, attachment, and addressing any emotional issues presented. Clara also provided consulting services to pre-k schools, implementing programs to decrease challenging behaviors and increase resilience in children. Parallel to her work at THD, Clara continued to learn and specialize in the areas of psychology that she most enjoyed. Clara is one of the bilingual clinicians certified in Attachment and Behavioral Catch-up intervention (ABC), and also a CPP rostered by Child Parent Psychotherapy in the state of Oklahoma. In addition, she also holds the certification of Circle of Security. She is also trained in various modalities, including TBRI, PCIT, Theraplay, Incredible Years, and EMDR, among others.

In addition, Clara is trained in Perinatal mood disorders by Postpartum Support International (PSI).

Throughout her professional development, Clara has also had the opportunity of being trained in topics of trauma, attachment, and other mental health issues, by some of the most respected leaders in the field such as: Chandra Ippen, Karyn Purvis, Julie Larue, Kent Hoffman, Bessel Van Der Kolk, Bruce Perry, Charles Zeenah, Daniel Siegel, John Gottman, among others.

Clara is also a bilingual clinician endorsed as an Infant Mental Health Specialist, supported by the Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health and OKAIMH.

In 2020, Clara began working for Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma. Clara has had a long relationship with the Catholic institution and has started to provide mental health services and marriage counseling, one of the most satisfying experiences of her career.

At present, Clara continues to work in her own private practice, where she provides services for a wide range of mental health disorders, relational and emotional issues, to an extensive clientele, including adults, children, individuals, families, and couples. She is also invested in continuing her professional development and is studying in-depth Jungian Therapy. The field she works in is her passion, but her greatest joy and satisfaction come from her family life.

Scripture that motivates your work

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

This Scripture reminds me reminds me to stay patient, focused, and faithful in my work with clients. It encourages me to persevere even when progress feels slow and to let go of anything that might hinder my ability to serve others with compassion. By keeping my focus on Christ, I’m reminded to lead with empathy, integrity, and hope. I’m encouraged to help clients find strength and endurance in their own journey.
